The Forest Service later described it as "an interspecies incident."
What happened was the saucers set down in the clearing at dusk and started pulling the churchyard dead up out of the ground for study, and the brains in their jars were having a marvelous time about it, and then something eight feet tall came out of the treeline and did not care for any of it.
It threw the first saucer into the second saucer.
The dead — and this is the part the report leaves out — helped. They got hold of the landing struts. There was a great deal of enthusiastic pulling.
By moonrise the clearing held one intact jar, sitting in the wet leaves, blinking.
It did not blink for long.
